Stonewall Tell Elementary School is a shining example of what happens in a school when you have engaged parents, excellent teachers, thriving students, and effective leadership. The EDhear team was honored to be invited to help tell Stonewall Tell story.
"This was once my neighborhood school," said EDhear President Stephen J. Alford. "It's reassuring to see that the school remains a top performer and excellent school for the community."
Under the leadership of Principal Philip Hammonds, the school is the only elementary school in the South Learning Community of Fulton County Schools to receive a "B" grade from the GA Department of Education based on the College & Career Readiness Performance Index or “CCRPI” in 2017. It was designated as a Top Elementary School by College Park Awards for three years in a row: in 2017, 2018, and 2019. In addition, Stonewall Tell has been recognized as a Beating the Odds School by the state of GA for five consecutive years, and is ranked in the top 50% of all schools in the state of GA across multiple polls and rankings. The school is a recipient of the Georgia Shape Governor's Honor Roll Award, and In 2019, the City of South Fulton issued a proclamation, establishing a Stonewall Tell Day.
Stonewall Tell Elementary School offers students a host of programs that enrich their academic experience, including becoming a Google Apps For Education school, an NFL Play 60 school, a former Cambridge International Exam school and an International Baccalaureate Candidate school. The school is the home of the Chess Club Tournament Champions for 2018 and 2019. In addition, Stonewall Tell students are also Fulton County District Attorney Mock Trial Competition Champions for 2018 and 2019.
EDhear spent three days chronicling the efforts and achievements of Stonewall Tell Elementary School.
